Nakuru national park is famous for the wide variety of over 350 bird species which include: marabou stock, white pelican, egrets, the greater and lesser flamingos among other wild animals such as the buffalo, antelope, lion, zebra, black rhinos and many more. This is a conservation project founded in the year 1977 by Dr. Dame Daphne Sheldrick in honor of the memory of her late husband.

The project main aim is rehabilitation and rescuing orphan,young baby elephants and rhinos. Visitors are only allowed to visit the orphanage for an hour every day between 11am to noon. its during this period  that the animals are brought out to play and get feed .
